Bharath is a political geographer focusing on new media, political communication, and cultures of hate and intolerance online using computational and qualitative methods. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Oxford Internet Institute and the Computational Propaganda project. Bharath’s current projects focus on social media manipulation and disinformation in North American and Western Europe. Previously, Bharath was a Researcher on the VOX-Pol project, focusing on studies of the digital culture of the radical right.
Bharath completed his PhD in Geography at UCL in 2017 and joined the Oxford Internet Institute in March 2017. Bharath has commented widely on issues related to disinformation on social media, Russian involvement in the 2016 United States election, hate speech, and the radical right in the Houses of Parliament, United Nations, and various media outlets. His recent publications have appeared in journals including the Journal of International Affairs and European Societies.
